Tuesday Tirade Gulf Edition

Share

First of all today I am linking up with Erin @ The Mother Load because she is awesome and loves the earth and is a green inspiration!  I’m an avid reduce reuse recycle girl and so is she.  I love meeting people like that!  We have been talking about the spill and decided to ban together!  Oh and I think she’s pretty awesome…and since I do you have to too!!

Also…this could turn rambly and I don’t care because I’m so mad about what’s going on!!

Today’s post is about the fucking oil spill/leak…or as I would call it the gush of 95,000(ish) barrels a day.

In case you have been living under a rock April 20th the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded and two days later sank killing 11 people along with it.  The oil has been leaking and spreading since then.  I have been reading story after story after story with my heart breaking more and more each time.  I see these pictures of animals and people and I cry.  I read the stories and I feel for these people.  I was activist once upon a day and still am and a constant tree hugger.  If I could have picked up and gone I would be there doing whatever I could to fix this.  I know that many of you are donating, reaching out and some are there helping and I commend you!

If I feel so strongly and I know many of you do too why don’t the people who are at fault?

I understand that BP can’t solve the problem overnight but…a month and a half???  The part that caused the blowup broke off weeks before and the guy in charge of the rig said no big deal and BP was arguing with whoever to find out who was responsible for fixing it.  Had they just…I don’t know…done their job and fixed a valve this probably wouldn’t have happened.  11 people wouldn’t have died, the gulf wouldn’t be polluted, marshlands wouldn’t be in danger of being destroyed, people wouldn’t be losing their livelihood and all the innocent animals wouldn’t be trying to figure out what the hell happened.

The only permanent solution (they think) is relief wells that won’t be done until August which is two months away.  The spill is already at the Florida panhandle what will it do in two months!?  From what I have read they have been shifting blame and upset that everyone is ‘making fun of them’ boo fucking hoo.  Your a giant corporation missing deadline after deadline to fix this shit!  I couldn’t find the article I was reading but the company was DEBATING taking away the upper guys dividends of something like 10.5 million to put towards clean up.  Debating?  DEBATING?  Give it up already!  I have already told The Husband and anyone willing to listen to my ranting not to buy from BP, if you are still buying from BP then your a moron.  Supporting a company that is wasting time while our wild life suffers is ridiculous.

Hard working people will be filing bankruptcy soon.  People who have worked in the gulf for generations out.  Obama says he will make sure BP pays ‘every last dime’ to these people and that they will fix it or someone else will step in.  I hope they do but how long is that going to take?  Electric companies and mortgage companies won’t be waiting on the I.O.U from BP!

And the animals!  Have you seen these pictures??  I held from displaying the really rough ones because I know some people are sensitive.

and from space, mid May was the most current pictures

If you would like to know how you can help there are several sites with ideas, me being the wonderful friend I am found a few for you already!

From me how you can help is go green, reduce your carbon foot print, reduce your dependency on oil, don’t support BP

Craft Hope – they are looking for handmade wash cloths and you can even use old towels to cut up or tee shirts, read her post for more details

Ways to Help or Check out http://www.oilspillvolunteers.com/

I’m going to be collecting old towels, recieving blankets or handmade washcloths for Craft Hope for the next few weeks.  If you want to contribute let me know and if your local we can meet up and if not I can hook you up with my address or their information.  These will be used to clean animals that are covered in oil down in the Gulf, this is one of the simplest ways that you can help! :]

Perhaps we should start thinking about listening to all the crazy environmental people who want us to start moving to alternate energy.  Hybrids or electric cars could perhaps be made a little more affordable for people such as myself.  Corporate America could maybe decide to live with a little less (a little less to them is life changing for me) and give up some relationships.  The reason people don’t want to give up oil is because it makes more money then if we were to use…I don’t know…water and wind and the sun.  You know FREE things to power.  Things that don’t harm the earth.  If I hear another ‘I won’t be around to see it destroyed’ I may grab the nearest pointy object and stab their eyes out.  How do you know?  Things might be going to shit a lot faster then you realize!  If the companies weren’t so concerned with getting all they can we would be a lot better off.  It’s time for everyone to care about the earth as much as me and my counterparts do!  I mean unless you like your vacation spots being covered in tar balls and dancing in acid rain.  That’s on you.

I got my images from these sites…after the vajazzle holy jesus anger fest I’m taking no chances!  These are not my images they came from

  1. Here’s the thing I don’t understand….how is there an endless supply of oil. Does that make sense? Millions of gallons of oil have been spilled into the water, but doesn’t it run out at some point? I saw on the other news about poor pelicans covered in oil…some dead and some near it. It made me freakin SICK TO MY STOMACH. And then I heard the oil may make its way up here to New England…WTF? It pisses me off, too, and I can barely even look at the pics you posted, it’s so damn sad. HUGE kudos to craft hope!

  2. my post is going up soon! thanks for linking up w/ me! awesome job, steph!
    xoxo

  3. I am so pissed about this…first of all, we are supposed to be going to Florida in August for 2 weeks, and we have no idea if we will be able to use the dang beach or swim in the ocean. It is a travesty that they can’t get the oil to stop spilling. The fact that this cap is not even putting a small dent in what is flowing out is ridiculous. They are smart enough to drill, but not smart enough to stop it?? Makes me so pissed!!

  4. Posting the same exact thing I posted on Erin’s blog. I might have to blog about this soon too.

This is bullshit. I heard on the radio yesterday that when Bush Sr. took office these oil companies were in agreement with the government to sign a deal where they are at fault up to $75 million if something like this happens. Oh shit, what about the part where they make BILLIONS in profits per quarter?

It’s all about the oil companies running congress and you name it. Same shit would happen if this was the NRA we are talking about.

He who has the most control, the most influence and the most money wins.

No, I am not talking about the gas station owners or Jiffy Lubes, etc. I am talking those oil execs.

Fuck you BP and fuck you oil companies. You all can suck it as far as I’m concerned. And while you are at it, go to fucking hell for not putting things in place to prevent this from happening.

  5. The whole thing disgusts me!!

  6. I’m going to say what I said over at Erin’s site, because I am having a hard time finding words to actually describe the myriad of feelings flooding through me:
My heart breaks repeatedly on this. I’m horrified, angered and in shock. The length of time this is going on is beyond comprehensible. I feel helpless. I’ll check out your links.

  7. The ocean is ruined. This upsets me so much that I don’t even have words. And the pictures make me cry.

Fuck you BP. Fuck you big oil.

  8. I dont know which component is more infuriating: the damage and havoc OR the lack of accountability by those responsible. Heartbreaking.

  9. I agree with everything you said…
It’s completely heartbreaking and makes me so damn sad and so damn mad.

  10. All I got to say to BP is Fuck you!

  11. This whole situation in the gulf sends me into a rage but the pictures really send it home. Thanks for sharing. I am your newest follower from FMBT! PLease come by and follow me as well:) Happy Mothering!
