I absolutely adore the ocean! I had never been outside of Iowa (with the exception of a few trips to Kansas City, Minnesota, Wisconsin or Missouri which we all know don’t realllllly count) until I was 16 and moved to Texas (which only lasted the summer). Anyway, I saw the clear blue water and white sand first when my family took us to Galveston Island and fell in completely love. Then, when I moved to South Carolina I went to Charleston and fell in love all over again.
I can sit at stare at the ocean for hours on end watching the waves roll in, hear birds squawking while they soar and listening to the noise of the waves crashing onto the beach. Watching the curls of water form and twist and turn until they reach your toes. Watching Nathaniel chase the waves back out and run squealing as they came back at him made Punk Rock Papi and I laugh many times.
I look at the ocean and a calm comes over me that I can not explain. Nate seems to have inheireted that same love,
we are also a mountains family. The mountains and the ocean together would make a happy habitat for the Martinez family. I would wake up and slip out onto the balcony of the condo to take a few minutes to watch people running or walking their dogs. Some would just be watching like I was and I would feel this presence and look behind me to find Babe with a huge smile on his face. The first morning I was in the bathroom when he woke up and popped around the corner with big eyes said ‘momma I see the ocean!’ and then he covered his mouth like we had just shared a big secret. Even though he threw countless tantrums and was moody a lot those little moments meant so much to this momma. We would take fifteen minutes to talk, point things out and listen to the waves before waking up Daddy.
We knew it wasn’t going to be a warm summer beach trip but we were not expecting 20 mph winds haha. Don’t be fooled by the picture of Nate in shorts and a tee, we went back in to bundle up a few minutes later. We thought the sun would warm us up but that wind!! There was a big storm coming in on Friday when we got to town but it wasn’t so bad. The wind and cold however meant we were bundled up and trying to blow away! Here are a few of my favorite pictures from our trip to Mrytle.

I’ve always wanted to go to Myrtle beach!! Looks like you guys had a great time

So funny how we were down there at the exact same time! Talking about it being cold, I knew when I read the weather report that those winds were going to make it COLD…and still, somehow…we forgot to bring our jackets. So we had to go buy jackets when we got down there…lol…and that thunderstorm that rolled through Friday night was not near as bad as what the weather report made it sound like. We were out in it, and I love to watch lightening over the ocean! So glad you all had fun. We did too!

They are fantastic! I love that you are sharing them. I could sit and look through photos for hours!!!! The black and white one of Nate on the beach is awesome…and I love the one of him pressing up against the bubble. I can not wait for an opportunity to take Lil Duck to the beach. I just know she will flip with fun!
