Skin Care for Athletes

Share

This could also be called ‘skin care for people who sweat a lot’ or ‘skincare for people who are working to become athletic’ or whatever your deal is.  I workout a lot and I sweat a lot and this was leading to breakouts so I decided to test some things and figure out what works for me and wanted to share.  I feel like I may have already written about skincare but it’s always good to get a refresher and it’s Friday and my niece and nephew are coming over so…forgive me if it’s something you read here already?

My first tip is DON’T WEAR MAKEUP WHILE YOU WORKOUT, this isn’t something I do but I have seen it happen a lot.  Your skin will not be happy with you if you are looking like Tammy Faye Baker while you are sweating.  And, no one else working out is concerned with looking pretty, working out is ugly and sweaty and that’s how it should be!

Sweating really is good for your skin, it clears things out and cools you off and makes you feel like a beast.  The problem is when you wipe yourself off with a gross towel or your hands.  Bacteria starts sharing and spreading and it’s a problem.  I keep makeup remover wipes in my van so that after I get busy I can pull out a wipe and clean off my skin and when I get home I give it a good wash in the shower.

Water, I know we’ve talked and talked about the importance of water but you need it and you need to guzzle a lot.  It will make you sweat ‘clean’ and feel awesome plus hydrated skin is younger skin!!

Tie your hair back or put it up, it has oils in it and that can get into your skin easier while you are working out because your pores are open and it will contribute to breakouts.

Wear natural fibers/fabrics…this will help with the bacne or neck/chest acne that you may develop.

Also, I have officially lost 35.4 pounds and am pretty excited about it!  I’m feeling great!  Don’t forget to visit my love bug Jayme for her swimsuit sexy (she’s rockin’ it!!) and if you are looking for a little encouragement during your own weight loss efforts, join us!  We have a PRIVATE facebook group just for you!

  1. Over 30 pounds! That’s great!!!!

I am a HUGE fan of Arbonne products (technically I’m a consultant, but I really only do it for the personal discount… never tried to sell a thing!) It’s my one indulgence (and it’s admittedly and big one) but the products are the only I’ve found that keep my skin in line!

  4. Good advice about the makeup – as they say, if you still look cute when you’re done, you didn’t do it right! :) I tend to get back/chest breakouts from sweating and using a salicylic acid face wash on both when I shower really helps. That and showering soon after working out so the sweat and oil doesn’t just sit there.

Congrats on the weight loss! Shows all your hard work!
