There are things that you know you will EVENTUALLY have to talk to your child about.  And, you would prefer they be older then three and have a little more grasp on the world but, nontheless, here is a list of things Nate and I have discussed over the past several days.

Homosexuality & Bromances:  We have two guys living in the apartment caddy corner from us and they both came out today and got into the same car.  When one of the guys walked by Nate he asked “why do two boys live there?”.  I explained that sometimes boys like each other like mommy and daddy do and sometimes boys are friends and like to live together so they have a friend close by.

Why daddies can’t get pregnant:  He was telling me about how he was going to get pregnant one day so he could have a big belly too.  I had to tell him that right now, Daddies can’t get pregnant because they don’t have the right parts.

Why don’t pregnant ladies need ‘pampons’ (tampons):  He wanted to know where my pampons were because he likes to play with them. I tried explaining that pregnant mommies don’t need them because they don’t get their period.  The kid is only three so I know that he isn’t picking up all of this but I don’t want to lie to him haha

Religion:  He asked me why the sandcastle was lit up, I told him it was actually a church steeple.  What’s a church mommy?  I’m told told him that some people believe in other powers, some don’t and some don’t believe in things unless they see them.  No one is right or wrong and he will get to make his own choice on that when he is older.  He seemed satisfied with that…for now.

Why he can’t have six sisters:  Because Mommy would have to get two jobs to help Daddy support them and you would never see me.  If you would like that many sisters you will need a stepmom.

Stepmoms, what are they (brought on by the six sisters):  Sometimes Mommies and Daddies decide they don’t want to live together anymore and you get step-mommies and step-daddies.  He told me ‘I don’t want a stepmomma, that would make me sad’…good thing your dad and I don’t plan on splitting up any time soon.

What strange things have you had to explain lately?  I was thinking I had more time on a lot of these!!

  1. My ex brother in law is gay, so my kids have been around that all their lives, so that’s one potentially difficult conversation avoided on my end. Phew.

  2. Ahhh, the days of the endless questions :)
