Walking. Seriously, just walking.

If you are new around here, on Fridays me and my lovely counterpart The Random Blogette (Jaymeow for me) and I share inspirational weight loss stories/journeys while the other shares a tip/idea/workout and we swap each week.  This is all part of our year long weight loss challenge aka Flab to Fab feel free to join us!  (you could win $100) but it’s not just about who can lose the most pounds, it’s also about support, non judgement and everyone workin’ on their fitness.

Today, I’m super late with my post!  But, I have a good excuse, I’ve been running around all day and had two different doctor appointments!!

My job is to share a tip with you this week and I have something super easy that (almost) all of us can do.

WALKING.  And, drinking water.  Yep, that’s it.  Walk and drink and you don’t even have to walk miles and miles and miles.  Just get out and walk 20-30 minutes and you will burn tons of calories and it’s all vigorous activity according to my BodyMedia FIT.  That is AWESOME.  I like to walk on trails, around the neighborhood and our ‘urban’ trail, the Rail Trail.

I used to laugh hysterically when someone would suggest walking because I thought no way, I need to workout a lot and do aerobics and lift and all that but just the simple act of walking will give me 30-45 minutes of activity and I burn an average of 22 calories a minute…do the math for 30 minutes that’s 660 calories!  If I do a walk, clean up my house, take Nate to a park and do a 30 minute workout plus the regular breathing, living and digesting calories…I can rock a 4,000 calorie burn per day.  Granted, I weight a lot more then most of you so I will burn more calories but I know that it translates over.  Push a stroller and burn even more!  Nate usually chills out while we are walking and observes squirrels and birds.

Water, you should drink half your body weight in ounces.  So, a 150 pound woman should drink 75 ounces a day.  The more you drink, the more you will wash out.  It sounds a little weird and you may be bloated for the first day or so but once your body gets to it’s optimum hydration (and you keep it up) it’s more efficient and it will flush out the excess instead of hanging on to it.  Plus, lots of water will keep your skin pretty…and who doesn’t want that??

No matter how big you are, walking and water can help you burn up extra calories!

Today’s guest poster for Flab to Fab with The Random Blogette & Babe’s Rockin’ Mami is…Ducky!  Ducky is one of my very best bloggy biffs and we are also pretty good IRL friends despite never having met in real life.  Weird?  Not to us!  Ducky is the amazing zumba warrior who kicks her significant other in the head in the sack sometimes and makes me laugh all the time.  She helps me keep motivated on my healthy path, listens to me vent and inspired me to try Zumba, which I LOVE!  She is amazeballs so check her out, here!  But first, don’t forget to join our PRIVATE facebook group for fitness/health/weight loss and support!!

I volunteered hesitantly. “Skinny” people aren’t always well received in a group focused on weightloss. However one never really knows the story or steps within the journey; how many times the blocks tumbled or shattered to build the person before you. My story is not a weightloss one but more of a health and wellness. The weightloss is a mega perk. I think it takes a whole health mentality to be successful an dis 100% why I have been.

Barely 20 and I was diagnosed with diabetes and immediately put on insulin.  If you’ve ever experienced this you know it is instant weight gain. No choice.  A few short years later I was hit with thyroid problems.  It was radioactively obliterated = gradual weight gain. No Choice. A couple of years after that came infertility treatments. I’ll spare you the details except to say INSTANT hormonal weight gain. No Choice.

It was during the in-fertility struggle that I began focusing on my whole health, from the inside out, instead of just the quickest way to shed pounds. I joined Zumba which has saved me both physically and mentally. I needed the outlet and quickly became addicted to the Zumba high and the results! If you’ve ever struggled with weight you know it can feel hopeless at times.

Then I got pregnant. On the second run with IVF I was pregnant with twins. Double the hormones, three times the amount of insulin and I was in maternity clothes by 6 weeks! Baby B’s heart stopped about 13 weeks but that didn’t stop double the weight gain. If that wasn’t enough, I broke my knee cap at 5 months which sentenced me to being immobile. Immobile and pregnant equals a TON of weight (think Orca whale!).

My point is to share that it CAN be done. Your goals ARE achievable. I’m down to the lower end of my ideal body weight and I feel better than I ever have. I do use supplements, I eat as balanced and healthy as I can and I don’t deprive myself when I really want something. I also don’t own a scale. My food decisions are based on how my clothes fit and how I feel naked :O)

As an insulin dependent diabetic with thyroid disease, I have an interesting journey and I’m happy to share about it. If you have questions or want more information please feel free to email me. I’ve done most of the research for you! I really think the having a wellness goal not just a weight goal makes all the difference!

I have tips this week and Jayme has another great guest post!  Check out her place for that and don’t forget to join us in our private facebook group if you too need support!

I decided to share links to some weight free/equipment free workouts, I know it’s a bit of a cop out but give me a little slack, I’m slowly getting back to routine and getting my energy back.  Also, I strongly suggest checking out Women’s Health, not paid to say it, I get it electronically on my Nook Color and I love it!  I do think I’m a few issues behind though…better get to reading!

No Props?  No prob!

No Equipment Workout

Fat Burning Yoga ..love yoga!

Body weight workouts are so great and really effective!  You just use your body, no tools, no equipment and no DVDs.  I used to do them a lot and still do, I love my DVDs but if I’m somewhere were I don’t them…I have my body!
